Introducing 5 epic adventures within an hour of Denver, Colorado:

A boy is having an adventure with his family, looking at the Georgetown Loop train on a bridge.

1. Georgetown Loop Railroad

~50 minutes from Denver

In just under an hour of drive time (hopefully no, I-70 traffic!) from Denver, you’ll surround yourself with what seems like the heart of the Rockies in the small mining town of Georgetown, Colorado. The Georgetown Loop Railroad is a real treat for families. This historic steam train ride takes you on a scenic journey through the mountain forest, offering a taste of the wild west’s golden era. It’s a chance to see beautiful landscapes and learn about the region’s rich history, making it an educational and enjoyable experience for kids and adults alike.

The Train ride is about 1 hour and 15 minutes in the summer season. This length was perfect for our three year old who was getting tired by the end of the ride but still loved every minute of it! We did not opt for the mine tour which you can add to your experience which runs an additional hour or more.

Here during the Christmas season? Check the website for holiday themed rides!

Bringing your kids to a concert at Red Rocks Amphitheatre might sound like a wild idea, and I won’t suggest that. But visiting this iconic venue during non-event times is an absolute must. Red Rocks Amphitheatre and Park is more than just a concert venue; it’s one of our favorite family destinations. During your visit, you can explore the stunning rock formations, enjoy picnics with panoramic views, and take leisurely hikes in the surrounding park. It’s an ideal spot for kids to connect with nature and for the whole family to appreciate the unique beauty of Colorado’s natural wonders.
