Soaring High: Adventures at Wings Over The Rockies With Kids

Wings Over The Rockies With Kids: Review

This was our second visit over the last few years to Wings Over The Rockies with kids. The grandparents were in town and there was snowy weather outside. We thought we’d visit again as this museum is great for all ages and a fantastic indoor activity in Denver. With this being winter break, we also wanted to avoid the heavy crowds like the Children’s Museum or Aquarium. Wings Over The Rockies checked all the boxes!

*Note: This review is for the Lowery-Denver Location.

Situated in eastern Denver at the former Lowry Air Force Base, Wings Over The Rockies Air & Space Museum seamlessly combines education and entertainment, making it an ideal choice for families. Join us as we share our experience navigating this museum, providing insights into its diverse attractions. Our adventure, accompanied by space- and flight-loving kids, ages 3, 5, and 7, brought an extra layer of fascination to our visit.

Warm Welcome by Navy Veterans

Our journey at Wings Over The Rockies began with a warm welcome at the entrance, where two Navy veterans greeted us with enthusiasm. Their friendly demeanor set the tone for our visit, and they were more than happy to answer any questions we had about the museum. This personal touch added a unique and welcoming element to our family outing, setting the stage for an unforgettable experience.

Stepping Into The Hangar

Upon stepping into the hangar at Wings Over The Rockies Air & Space Museum, you’re immediately struck by the sheer size of numerous aircraft that take center stage throughout the grounds. The straightforward display emphasizes the substantial scale of these planes, offering a tangible experience of their historical significance. As you walk through, each aircraft provides a glimpse into the evolution of aviation and space exploration, giving visitors a direct connection to the technological advancements that have shaped these industries. It’s a straightforward and informative exploration of aerospace history that allows you to appreciate the progress made in flight over the years.

Engaging Kids’ Activities

Wings Over The Rockies goes beyond traditional exhibits, offering hands-on activities for young explorers. Our space- and flight-loving kids were thoroughly enthralled by the Star Wars replicas, with the X Wing Starfighter stealing the show. Additionally, the hands-on experiences of building paper airplanes and launching paper rockets in the dedicated children’s zone provided a unique and educational element to their visit.

Star Wars Replicas

Our boys are particularly fascinated with Star Wars so this exhibit was a big draw. Wings Over The Rockies Air & Space Museum features the Star Wars™ Incom T-65 X-Wing Fighter and Anakin Skywalker’s Podracer. Anakin’s podracer is meticulously replicated, offering a unique experience that combines the imaginative world of Star Wars with real-world aviation history. The museum’s Star Wars collection, including the X-Wing Fighter and Podracer, provides a special space for enthusiasts and fans to explore.

Another Option: Exploration of Flight

We have not been to the museum’s other location in Englewood – The Exploration of Flight but to my knowledge both places share a common theme of aviation, Wings Over the Rockies is a traditional air and space museum with a broad collection, including historical military aircraft, while Exploration of Flight places a stronger emphasis on interactive, educational experiences related to flight. Make sure when you are buying tickets you know which location you are going to and which location best suits you and your family.
